I created this painting intended to be seen both horizontally and vertically—- it looks like a different painting either way.
inspired by the view at beaver tail lighthouse in Jamestown, RI. this painting was inspired by the surroundings of one of the most enchanting places I’ve ever been. where i made a life changing decision. a monumental moment in my life where I decided to pack up everything I owned, go pack up my little mazda miata I taught myself how to drive via YouTube a few months prior, and drive 15 hours leaving my abusive relationship.
when I lived on Jamestown I went to beaver tail lighthouse a few times a week.
a week before I left Rhode Island I sat at beaver tail and begged the universe for a sign what to do. To leave or to stay. I knew if I stayed I would fall deeper into my addiction, and I knew I had to leave a relationship that destroyed me.
walking to my car I met a couple from charleston who asked to take their picture— I took that as a sign. Back then i wasn’t in the right mindset to truly process A N Y T H I N G but what I did know is that was a screaming sign to go back to charleston.
even though I fell deeper into my active addiction when I returned— that was what was suppose to happen to lead me to where I am today.
the connection I have to Jamestown, RI and the people who live there is pretty indescribable- it’s cliche to say “you’d have to live there to understand” but I think anyone/everyone who has spent time there will know that’s the only way to explain its magic.

i have been working on this painting for 3 months. it was made with layers and layers of plaster, concrete, iron paint, metal paint, oil, sand, wood chips, ink, and cranberries. creating these colors + textures took a while to get right and lots of drying time and reflecting. it hasn’t felt completely done until now.
this painting was inspired by the intense longing/calling to explore Zion National park. I find myself looking at endless photos of the park and feel inspiration like I never have from a place I’ve never even been. the textures/colors of Zion are what I feel my aura and soul look+feel like. I have photos on a dream board and promised myself I will make it to Zion before 2024.

short clip from biography, full bio in photos below.
“You deserve a safe atmosphere. Everyone deserves a safe atmosphere. You have the right to choose who you allow to influence your life, from the moment you realize you have a choice. You have a choice. Once you make peace with the truth that you do not have to allow people in your life that cause you pain: the love you have for yourself will expand in ways you’ve never imagined.
It isn’t easy, it’s hard to think of yourself before others: it’s hard to think of someone else’s sadness from an action of self love you took for YOURSELF.
They also have a choice. They have a choice to choose to awaken to what they need to heal, so they can be a positive force in the atmospheres they enter. It’s a personal choice how long you are willing to wait to see if they can make that decision on their own, no one can force anyone else to heal. I waited too long for some relationships that have decades of trauma attached to them. Causing myself immense pain in the process, feeling unsafe and uncertain over and over again. Once I realized the pain I was causing MYSELF, shifting the blame towards myself for allowing it to happen.. I set the boundaries I needed too.
My atmosphere is too important to be cluttered. I cannot grow in darkness. Every moment of every relationship has shaped the friend, partner, family member, human I am today. Without taking responsibility for the pain I’ve caused other people, I couldn’t feel deserving of my own space. It’s a cycle of growth, acceptance, forgiveness, and love. What do you need to release from your atmosphere so you can take deep safe breathe of light + love so you can be a positive force in life? “

This sculptural painting was inspired by the marble found in quarries between Carrara and Massa in the Apuan Alps region of Tuscany.
I have always been endlessly fascinated by the gifts our earth has given us: art made from natural stone, metamorphic rock, gemstones, and the clay that’s needed to form in-between.
I began using plaster & premixed concrete as one of my primary mediums almost 2 years ago now.
When I began focusing on embedding different minerals + materials + live components to my concrete mixes, I felt I was really tapping into my unique artistic foundation. It was something of my own. A textural experience within each new project that felt closer and closer to respecting and representing the indescribable beauty of natural stone.
Architecture has always been a motivator for my artwork— the past few months I’ve felt closer to rightfully building the trapped ideas I have in my head, that I have not yet been able to achieve with my hands.
Practice and patience. Just like most timelines in our life, pressure builds and we learn the beauty is within the ever changing growth of the environment we are in.
if marble formed under intense, profound pressure and heat: so can I.

I should have taken them off sooner-
I looked at you through rose-colored glasses,
and I pleaded to give you the benefit of the doubt,
At times I would rather listen to the masses,
while I am slowly figuring things out,
The perfection in people you seem to expect,
your finger is pointing at them,
when inwardly, it should reflect,
is where to begin,
Seek as you may, and you are not going to find,
perfection is not going to be there,
it does not give you peace of mind,
until you take action to show you care,
and realize control is not yours for the taking,
there is plenty of blame to go around,
whilst hearing the sound of hearts breaking,
as shattered dreams become the normal sound,
you seem to be looking through rose-colored glasses.-TAYLOR ROBINSON 2024.
